About McKellar Heights

Situated very close to Carlington Park and just a few blocks away from the Walmart and business park at Baseline and Merivale, there is so much for young families, students, retirees, and professionals living in the neighbourhood of McKellar Heights.

The tranquil, leafy neighbourhood of McKellar Heights was first built in the late 1940s, and then in 1985 townhouses on Esterlawn Private were built. Today updated and upkept detached and semi-detached two-storey homes dominate the neighbourhood.

The neighbourhood is home to St Paul's Presbyterian Church and the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Ottawa. McKellar Heights has two parks within its cozy borders, Kingsmere Park and Castlewood Park. Kingsmere Park provides more of a social setting for residents, as it features a large wading pool in the summer and a double-sized hockey and skating rink in the winter. For shopping amenities, Fairlawn Mall is on Carling Avenue across from Carlingwood and there is a plethora of shopping, services, and restaurants at the corner of Merivale and Baseline. The closest hospital to this area is the Queensway Carleton Hospital.

This area is blessed with a 417 entrance on onramp a 2 minute drive from residents doorsteps, making the commute to downtown or Kanata a breeze. McKellar Heights is also very well serviced by public transportation, along Maitland, Clyde, Navaho and Baseline. There is nowhere in Ottawa bus travellers cannot reach from McKellar Heights.

There is one school serving McKellar Heights:

  • D. Roy Kennedy Public School

A cool feature about McKellar Heights:

Carlington Park- a large park with a baseball field as well as slopes for tobogganing. The hill was formerly used as a ski hill!
