About Little Italy

Little Italy is a neighbourhood just west of Centertown and is the cultural epicenter of Ottawa's Italian community. Little Italy boasts some of the nicest venues and coolest restaurants in Ottawa. From Pub Italia with its “Beer Bible” (over 300 drink options from around the globe) to Sala San Marco as an extremely popular banquet hall, Little Italy is known for its interesting eats and diverse venue options. With Dow’s Lake a stone’s throw from one end of Preston Street and Chinatown on the other, residents and visitors alike have no shortage of entertainment at hand.

There are quite a few different housing styles available throughout Little Italy, ranging from single-family, detached homes to fourplexes and apartment buildings. Some of the single-family homes have been updated recently while others (the majority) still retain their original heritage facades and styles. While there are a wide variety of old and new housing, renting, and owning options in this neighbourhood, there are also big changes coming to the south end of Little Italy. At the intersection of Preston and Carling there will be three new condo towers that will claim the top three spots on the city's list of tallest and most contemporary, boutique building serving the area:

Some of the schools serving the area of Little Italy

  • Lycée Claudel
  • Fern Hill School
  • Carson Grove Elementary School
  • École Côte-Du-Nord
  • Sawmill Creek Elementary School

A cool feature of the area:

Every June, since 1974, the neighbourhood hosts the Italian Week Festival, Ottawa's celebration of Italian culture, inviting people of all backgrounds to the area for events and dining.
