About Beacon Hill North

This neighbourhood is a suburb in the east end of Ottawa, about 8 km north east of downtown. While it is primarily residential, Beacon Hill includes some notable professional and industrial establishments, mainly, the National Research Council of Canada and its large campus.

Beacon Hill North is bordered by the Ottawa greenbelt, providing a surplus of green space for residents. Ruisseau Green’s Creek ravine area, as well as residential parks and woodlands, are spread throughout this neighbourhood area.

In addition to this neighbourhoods close proximity to downtown, it boasts one of Ottawa’s best public high schools, Colonel By Secondary School. The school is rated Ottawa’s best secondary school by the Fraser Institute for its students’ academic results. In 2005, Colonel By Secondary School was ranked as the third best academic school in Canada by McLeans’ Magazine. Beacon Hill North is also an established bilingual community, offering many other French and English schools.

Beacon Hill extends to Hwy 417 for easy access to Ottawa’s core, as well, O-Train stations, a Park ‘n Ride, and well-serviced bus routes service the Beacon Hill neighbourhood. It takes about 20 minutes during rush hour to make it downtown form this neighbourhood, and about 30 minutes via bus commute.
